Who we’ve helped make change
In partnership with leading architects and developers, we’ve helped change our cities on 1000+ projects.
What our clients are saying
“Stellen challenged council’s additional requirements”
“not settling for the very first answer”
During the DA process council placed additional flood constraints on the project which was unforeseen and could have created some serious design problems.
But after working with Ian and the Stellen team, they challenged councils additional requirements and were able to propose a cost effective solution that was satisfactory to the councils engineers requests.
The result achieved was a safe and reasonable flood solution without compromising the design.
— Ken Van Brandwijk (Playoust Churcher Architects)
We are very grateful for the solutions developed by Logan and Mo from Stellen. They are strategic in their thinking, both technically and socially, not settling for the very first answer. Their smart flood work resolved very complex problems and achieved a much more elegant outcome than originally expected.
— Nicole Lasky (John Holland Group)

What we’ve been up to
Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service | Newman, WA
Architecture Masterprize – Green Building Best of the Best
We designed the water system for the PAMS project, including extensive rainwater capture and reuse in the dry Pilbara climate.
The system does not rely on pumps for irrigation but is captured and conveyed—without downpipes—to a landscaped ephemeral stream.
Instead of using a conventional pit and pipe system for the roof drainage, the water is carried though the soil and in small subsoil drainage lines to the town stormwater drainage system.
The building itself is rammed earth, one of the largest in Australia.
William Inglis Stable Relocation | Warwick Farm, NSW
William Inglis and Sons has a strong commitment to water sustainability. For this site we designed a system to collect and store the water from every roof on this very large site.
The total storage is enough to meet 90% of the site total needs (including irrigation for its extensive landscaping), even in the driest months.
The site is low lying and stormwater runs off directly to the Georges River. We designed an environmentally sympathetic waterway, which included extensive rehabilitation of the riparian zone and allowance for river flooding.
Kongu Village Water Supply | Western Province, Solomon Islands
Our Operations Manager, Logan, reflects on his experience building a rural water supply system from concept through to commissioning.

Just how green is buying local?
Compared to what you choose to buy, the origin of food is almost irrelevant (at least when thinking about greenhouse gas emissions).

Why we are here
Let’s face it
Doing something new and different is hard anywhere. Especially in architecture and property.
Intertia, fear of change and the status quo—these are holding us back. 20th Century thinking will only give us more of the same.
We must move forward.
We need a new mindset
In the connected economy, everyone has access to the best information. Top down thinking and bureaucracy will no longer produce sustainable and dynamic solutions to modern urban problems.
The best solutions lie in the minds of a community of creative professionals.
Get connected.
We’re here to help
Every forward thinking architect and developer wanting to make lasting change faces a daunting task—overcoming the inertia of outdated thinking bureaucracy.
To get regulators to care. Take a chance to change our cities for the better.
If your most innovative designs are going unbuilt because of resistance to new ideas, we can help you overcome the status quo.
Business on purpose
We stumbled upon it.
But now its at the heart of all of our decisions.
How can we make sure nobody is left behind with water and sanitation?

$700k of savings on civil and stormwater
- how we found it
Walter Street Willoughby Project
Listen along as we review a conventional textbook stormwater design and apply some simple ideas to save this client up to $700k.
These ideas technically important, but not hard. Actually implementing them into a successful approval is the difficult part—definitely not for everyone.
