Most people don't persevere
Almost anything worth doing requires perseverance. Sticking around. Showing up day after day with a generous posture.
It’s really hard to do. And that’s why its rare.
Disaster response is worth doing. If disasters receive sufficient attention (they normally do in the west), there is a generous (and necessary) outpouring. It continues as long as it holds popular attention.
But sooner or later people become fatigued. Neomania sets in and most people’s emotional attention (understandably) fades away.
A small group of people are left. Those who are committed enough to stick around. To push through the dip. To implement the ideas.
That’s the group that will make lasting change.
